Same Kind of Different as Me

I love a good story. Whether it is a made-up story from a book or a story my grandmother told me about her childhood, I think stories have a way of connecting people. Our church has been celebrating different “heritage months” through the year, and it has brought about many stories. There have been stories of success, of failure, of anticipation, of hope, of hope lost, of grace, of forgiveness, of hate, of hate received, and of love. Same Kind of Different as Me is a movie releasing in theaters on October 20, and it makes me think of stories that some in our community may be living out.

This movie is the story of an international art dealer who must become friends with a dangerous homeless man so he can save his struggling marriage. They embark on life’s journey together and lives are forever changed.

I’m looking forward to watching this one because I think it will be one of those stories where we will reflect on how we are living our lives in this world. It might even be a movie that some won’t want to watch because of the same reason. I’ll be sharing more as it gets closer to the release and afterward, too.

If you’ve ever had someone in your life who is different than you are, this might open your eyes and heart to get to know their story…or to share your own story. Rich/poor, educated/uneducated, introverted/extroverted, young/old…you can plug in all kinds of opposites here and find that even the most different of people may be more like you than you think.

  1. I finally got to watch the latest Beauty and the Beast on DVD. 🙂 I’ve heard about the movie on the radio and it would be good for a date night.
