*Managing Your Emojis: 100 Devotions for Navigating Your Feelings

Author: Michelle Nietert, LPC-S and Lynn Cowell
Released: 6/6/2023
Publisher: Zonderkidz
Page Count: 224 pages
Ages: 8 – 12 years

“God calls us to live lives of joy, but sometimes we feel mad, sad, or scared. Managing Your Emojis, a 100-day devotional, teaches kids that God loves them no matter what they’re feeling, and Scripture can empower them to manage their emotions.”

This unique devotional deals with emotions. It is divided into four sections/emotions: sad (embracing hope), scared (embracing brave), mad (embracing calm), and happy (embracing joy). Each section has 25 devotions. There are three steps to reading each devotion: Read, Embracing, and Giving your emotion to God. “Read” is the devotion itself. “Embracing” is a section to reflect on some questions and journal your response. “Giving your emotion to God” is to pray to Him about the emotion starting with a prompt. There’s so much going on in the world today and we can be feeling a lot of big emotions. This is a great devotional to help us work through some of those feelings.

*Bryson the Brave Bison: Finding the Courage to Face the Storm

Author: Nate Davenport and Luke Freshwater
Illustrator: Richard Cowdrey
Released: June 27, 2023
Publisher: Zonderkidz

At first glance, Bryson the Brave Bison is just a picture book about a bison, but there’s more to Bryson than meets the eye. He might not be the best at many things but he has his own unique personality. The rhymes (or rap, depending on how you read it) on the pages share about his friends and some of the things they do. One day there is a storm and all the bison are scared and not sure what to do. Read to find out what happens next.
